September Adventures: Things to Do Around Greater Atlanta This Month

September is here, bringing the first hints of fall to Greater Atlanta! While summer temperatures may still be hanging around, the calendar is beginning to fill with outdoor festivals, live music, art shows, football, fairs and plenty of reasons to get out and explore.

Whether you're looking for a family-friendly weekend adventure, a date-night idea or simply an excuse to discover another corner of Metro Atlanta, there is plenty happening throughout September.

Here are a few ways to make the most of the month around Greater Atlanta.

Celebrate Labor Day Weekend in Marietta

Kick off September with a trip to historic Marietta Square for Art in the Park, returning September 5–7, 2026.

The annual Labor Day weekend festival transforms Glover Park and the surrounding streets into an outdoor art celebration filled with artists, creative displays and plenty to see and do around the Square.

After exploring the festival, make a day of it by grabbing lunch at one of the restaurants surrounding Marietta Square or browsing the area's local shops.

Tailgate in Downtown Alpharetta

Football season and fall just seem to belong together in Georgia!

On September 12, downtown Alpharetta hosts Grilling & GridIron, a celebration of SEC football and one of the South's favorite traditions: tailgating. The event takes place along Old Roswell Street and is scheduled from noon until 7:30 p.m.

Even if your Saturdays aren't normally planned around kickoff times, downtown Alpharetta is a fun destination for dining, shopping and exploring.

Looking for something a little more relaxed? Alpharetta Moonlight Market is scheduled for September 11 and September 25 at Alpharetta City Center, featuring local makers and artisans in the heart of downtown.

Enjoy Music Under the Stars in Roswell

Pack a chair or blanket and enjoy an evening outside during Music on the Hill in Roswell.

The September 11 concert features Nashville Nation and takes place on the lawn at Roswell City Hall.

Before the concert, spend some time strolling around historic Roswell, grab dinner along Canton Street or walk part of the Roswell Riverwalk along the Chattahoochee River.

September is a wonderful month to enjoy Roswell's trails and outdoor spaces as summer begins giving way to fall.

Explore the Roswell Arts Festival

Art lovers have another reason to visit Roswell later in the month.

The 60th Annual Roswell Arts Festival takes place September 19–20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Roswell City Hall.

Visitors can browse work from artists working in a variety of mediums while enjoying entertainment, food trucks and children's activities. The festival has been a Roswell tradition since 1966.

Eat Your Way Through an Atlanta Festival

The Atlanta Foodie Festival is scheduled for September 19–20, giving food lovers another reason to head into the city for a weekend adventure.

September's Atlanta calendar also includes the Kirkwood Wine Stroll on September 12 and plenty of neighborhood festivals, races, markets and community events throughout the month.

One of the best things about living in Greater Atlanta is that you don't have to travel far to discover a completely different neighborhood, restaurant or local experience.

Spend a Day at the North Georgia State Fair

Nothing says fall quite like fair food, carnival rides and flashing midway lights!

The North Georgia State Fair returns to Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta from September 24 through October 4, 2026.

The long-running Cobb County tradition includes rides, family attractions, entertainment and, of course, all of those once-a-year fair foods that somehow taste better when eaten while walking around a midway.

Welcome Fall at the Old Fourth Ward Arts Festival

Close out the month with art, food and time outdoors at the Old Fourth Ward Fall Arts Festival, scheduled for September 26–27 at Historic Fourth Ward Park.

The two-day event features fine arts and crafts, local food and beverages, live acoustic entertainment and activities for children.

It's also a great excuse to spend some time exploring Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward and nearby BeltLine.

Take Advantage of Atlanta's Outdoor Spaces

You don't need a festival on the calendar to have a September adventure.
